Free Speech
In many other countries, internet censorship can be used to silence dissenting opinions and hide the facts from public view. In China, the government blocks most websites from all other countries, allowing only a few websites from other countries. This kind of censorship generally uses whitelists, where only websites reviewed and approved by the government are legal to access by the general public. Usually these countries also have laws to prevent people from bypassing their censorship by using proxy connections, which allows one to circumvent all censored content. In china there is even a filter set up that checks all uploaded content for certain words associated with unwanted opinions, and the content is inspected by the Chinese government. The content is then censored, and the author is usually arrested. Censorship can be a powerful tool used to infringe on one's right to free speech.
